THE GREEDY FOX

An old fox was once walking across a village. On his way, he came a garden. In the garden he saw a vine with a bunch of grapes, hanging down the parapet wall built around the garden. He went near the vine and looked up. "Oh ! They are too high", said the fox to himself. He jumped up and tried to catch the grapes. He could not jump that much high. He tries several times. But each time he could not reach the grapes. He tried one more time but he fell back without the grapes. At last, the fox turned and walked away.
"I'm glad that I did not get them. They are not good grapes", the tired and weary fox said to himself while walking back to the jungle.

THE BOLD - HEADED MAN

Once, there was a man who had two wives. One of them was young and the other was a bit old. The man was not young. His hair was black but he had a few grey hairs too. The young wife did not like to see her husband look old. So, she always wanted to see him look young. Whenever she found a gray hair on her husband's head she pulled it out.
But the old wife did not like to see her husband look young. She wanted to see him look old all the time. So, whenever she found a black hair on her husband's head she pulled it out.
In the end, the poor man lost all his hairs that were black or gray. For in time, he had no hair at all and he became a bald - headed man

THE FOOLISH DOG

One day, a hungry dog stole a piece of meat from the butcher and run away. He caught the piece of meat with his teeth and ran a foot path. On his way, he came to a river. Over that river, there was a foot - bridge made with a coconut trunk. He stepped onto the foot - bridge and tried to get to the other side of the river. In the middle of the foot - bridge, he look at the water. He saw in the water, a dog with a piece of meat in his mouth. The dog didn't know that it was his own shadow. He opened his mouth to bark at the dog appeared in the water. At once, the piece of meat dropped into the river. The water rippled and the dog in the water disappeared. The dog realized his folly and went back home disappointed.

THE LOST AXE

Jayaneris and Sayaneris were wood cutters living in the same village.One day, they went into the jungle to cut some wood. While they walking in the jungle they found an axe under a big tree. Jayaneris picked up and said, 'This is mine; because I saw it first.'

"Don't say mine; Say ours because we both saw it at the same time", said Sayaneris.

Jayaneris did not agree with Sayaneris and he kept the axe for himself. Sayaneris kept silent and both of them walked ahead.

On the way, they found a gang of young men coming toward them in search of an axe they had lost.

"Ah ! This is our axe", they said.

"No, this is ours, we found it on the way; now it is ours", said Jayaneris.

Then, Sayaneris felt angry and said, "You said that you found it and it was yours; How can it be ours now ?"

The young men realized what had happend. They grabbed their axe and went away.
